Service Pack 0A! AWESOME!

Recently my computer took it upon itself to somehow degrade to service pack 0A.. Seriously. What the hell is that? I am running XP64. I just remembered to take a look in the about section of help under my computer... OEM Build_3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447 : Service Pack 0A. Nice..

What really creeps me out is that this turns up nothing in search engines. Windows Update will not work, IE7 won't install (I figured I could get WU working this way). It wans't always like this either, I installed updates.. and then one day.. it just didnt work.

I think the culprit is VS:Express.. Could be anything.. Never really noticed that 0A before.. Had to have been recent.

Right now I am just pouring my thoughts and notes onto here, trying to avoid the inevitable bitch of an install that was XP64 on a Nforce4x16 based 4x RAID-0 array..

I'm going to try to remove all windows updates, perhaps there is an odd version of explorer.exe that got copied in one of their many many updates. Could also have been autopatcher.. But nah.. I dont think I used that for anything.

Any similar experiences?

PS: Don't let this scare you away from XP64.. It really is a great OS.

Hahahah yep.. Will risk anything just to go fast! Makes sense tho, I'm a car guy.

Anyways.. Thanks for the replies.. A repair install cant be done without the hassle of installing the floppy drive.. installing the raid and sil drivers in the right order.. In x64 setup, I can load one set of drivers. If I load the RAID, I dont load the sil (other sata controller) driver which makes Windows think my SATA DVD drive is a writable disk.. It goes to 'probe' it for space or file system and voila.. bluescreen-o-rific.. Now if I load the sil drivers.. Voila.. no-hd-array!!

I found a couple things out.. CSID.. give a look in your registry if you ever want to change how windows identifies itself.. My problem is deeper tho, somehow it tricks MS into thinking im not running a MS os..

That would be great.... if i didnt pay for the copy.... ok.. back to work..

Woo hoo!! Got it. saying the correct service pack. Can someone post the description of thier system properties box in x64? Obviously, Microsoft Windows XP Pro X64 users only... Just list it like this:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition
Version 2003
Service Pack 1

I have a feeling that the "version 2003" doesn't belong there.. Can someone help me out and confirm everything?

Hahah. dont worry.. I have a network server that has most of my important stuff.. Its on a thecus n2100.. 2x RAID 0.. seriously.. 😀

This 4x business is awesome tho.. the speeds are insane.. So, I'm spoiled. Hell, I even have my cable modems in parallel on my RV016 (i could have up to 7). Nothing like downloading a file at 13.5megabits a second.. roughly around 1.7 megabytes a second..

Damn, thats faster than the LAN speeds I used to get back in the day.. 🙂 But still, not enough!! More power please.

I ran a Raid 0 in that config for over 3 years with 4x WD1200JB harddisk...I never had any problems at all, I recently removed two of the drives from the array so i could use a 6800GT with out overloading the PSU...and to put them in another PC in a Raid 0 setup.

Actually it might be the opposite since normal disk i/o is split 4 ways, the amount of time the drives spend under 100% load is a lot less than a 1x setup.

Transferring files from my old computer to this computer is a good example. The old computer (3000+ x64) looks as its about to keel over when transferring over the gigabit network at about 50MB/sec (yes i have reached the ~120MB/sec glory of gigabit ethernet before). And when you glance over at my new computer, you can barely hear or see anything..

Its definately not as black and white as that.. But the way I see it is.. If one hard drive fails, I'm screwed.. but the same goes for 1x setups too.. Yes, the probability of 1 out of 4 HDDs failing is higher than 1 of 1. But thats about it..

I love my RAID 😀 you dont scare me!!.
