Service engine light on

A while back there was a thread here about an auto parts chain that does free car computer code checks, but I can't turn it up.

I just poured money into this baby two weeks ago and the check engine light came on this weekend. It seems to run fine and I'm hoping it's something I can fix myself rather than mortgaging my first born. Where can I take it in to get it checked out for free?

How many miles does your car have? Sometimes the light comes on at regular intervals for your scheduled check up.

do you have a 3rd party gas tank cap?
i learned recently that in cars with OBD2+ (on-board diagnostics 2), a gas cap that is not the one included with the car will set off the check engine light
