Server vendors to recommend

Hi,

Anyone has a server vendor you like? I'm planning to buy (for work, of course) a rack with about 6 2-processor units for distributed computing implemented with open source software.

Reliability/price/support are the main requirements.

Thanks,

I'd go with a big OEM like HP, Dell, or IBM. Out of those, Dell is the easiest to work with and provides the best prices for organizations who are purchasing small quantities.

The depth of an OEM's support capabilities and the reliability of their support organization typically far outstrips that of smaller resellers.

Dell.

And call in to talk to a sales rep once you have speced out the server. Depending on how desperate they are you could be looking at 25% or more off the website prices.

Also what do you mean my "2 processor"? Are you talking about a 1u or 2u size server with 2 CPU's? Or do you mean something more blade like?

I'm thinking of 1u and 2u servers with 2 CPUs, although the final config will be a price/performance consideration. For the applications planned for this server, which is to speed up scientific calculations that now may take a day or so, the number of cores, cpu clock speed, and HT technology are the more important factors.
