The main reason I have every machine in my house on a UPS. Haven't worried about lightning storms in years.

I do too, but I still turn 'em off just in case of lightning striking a transformer in my vicinity and sending out an emp surge.

When I was much younger, I lived on top of a hill with very few trees. Had lightning actually pop the corner off a chip on my modem. That's when I learned alot about surgeprotectors. To this day cheap surge protectors survive an average of about 3-6 months in that house. Haven't tried a UPS there yet.

It would be interesting to see how my systems fair in the event of an transformer explosion. I will probably find out someday. For me it would just be a good excuse to upgrade. Especially sice my fastest machine is a dual 500Mhz machine.
