Woodcrest is a single chip server platform.

THe clovertown is a dual woodcrest platform.

OMG im seriously out of it today.

As for what would do more work its a clover.

But if you can GET A HARPER. Those are better.

ok, in terms of benchmarks, between the two processors, how does the 5148 2330 MHz Woodcrest match up against a 5310 1600 MHz Clovertown?

the woodcrest would probably be faster if your looking at single chip performance.

But clovers were meant for DP. Dual processors.

Well that is interesting. What if both are in a dual processor environment?

(2) Intel Xeon CPU Dual Core 5148 2.33GHz 1333FSB 4MB Cache - SL9RR VS (2) Intel Xeon CPU Quad Core L5310 / 1.60GHz / 8MB Cache / 1066FSB- SLAEM

Well the 5148 will be cooler than the 5310 but will not be much of a match in multi thread app's as compared to the 5310. If you want to play with single or dual threads on a dual processor environment then 5148 is the best with lower TDP.

But a 5310 seems better as most server app's now a days are multi-thread.

Your looking at a dual core vs a quadcore.

the dualcore is obviously clocked higher, so you will get better performance from it on a single applicaiton task.

However if your running parallism, or your VMWaring, the quadcore would crush the dualcore any day.
