"It will be 2 application servers driving a common storage device. On e of the app.server will be hot and the other will be cold at all times, so in case one dies on us the other one will kick in and 'see' the commonly stored data.

Because of developments in the storage area and server power, we are going for external IEEE disks that can be RAIDed and CHAINed. (the same drives can use USB ports but cannot be CHAINed). It is faster than IDE (less faster than SCSI) and it take less processor time for the same amount of data.

Thus, we need 2 identical hardware that has IEEE, USB 2.0, RAID (?), PS2 for keyboard and mouse all onboard. Obviously, some NIC and AVG x4 or x8 without sharing memory with main RAM.

IDE internal Hard drive (x2 for 2 machines) will only run the OS and ERP software, as well as ODBC server. Actual data on the external devices"

The above is a message I received from a friend. I need advice from the real techie guys here on ananctech. Appreciate your help. Stability is key here. Leaning towards PE chipsets or Granite Bay from Tyan, Asus but other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I am looking for a P4 solution which means Granite Bay or 845PE or 845GE. I have the Asus A7N8X at home and the board is still very raw otherwise it works excellent. But it is an AMD solution. Anyone else.
