server memory for desktops

i have two server sticks... i was wondering whether they can work together in dual channel and if i they can be used for a desktop machine? since i dont have a ddr2 motherboard handy i cant check.

Are they ECC DIMMS? If so it might be a problem. But i may be wrong. Can't remember if ECC will work with a motherboard that doesn't require ECC. I do know if the board requires ECC that non-ECC will not work.

it is ECC, fully buffered. it seems like some good 2gb sticks i might use in my next system but i just lack in that sort of knowledge :(

Fully buffered will not work on a desktop board. ECC will but buffered will not.

The benefit of ECC is only realized if the chipset supports it. If not, the extra "parity" chip does nothing and the module performs just as a (non ECC) chip would.

yeah thanks!

i will then probably make few quid selling them on ebay... unless i put them in one of the few 2 years old server stack machines i get soon... cant wait to play with them... will be a noisy experience.
