server load balancing on 6500

We'll be rolling out some new 6500's w/ CSM that can do L7 sometime this year.
Before that's implemented though, does anyone know if a 6500 w/o CSM can do basic L3/4 load balancing?

"ip slb" commands are available on the existing 6500's. Being that they're production switches, I can't just try it out on it to see if it works.

If anyone know ip slb works w/o CSM, please let me know.
thanks.

Just look at the docs for SLB. Also depends on the feature set you have for IOS.

Also, there is a module that is better than the CSM if you want high performance load balancing.

Thanks, but not what I was looking for.

I already searched on Cisco's site for "ip slb" and some other keywords. Only got the CSM related docs in return.
Which module gives better performance than CSM?

The URL above is for CSM. I want to know if a 6500 without a CSM can do basic (L4) load balancing.

AFAIK you can do basic load balancing without the CSM. It's processor intesive thought I think. That's why I've never used it.

You can do IOS SLB on a 6500 provided you have the correct feature set. I do not believe that it is done in hardware on the SUP so you may run into some limitations there. As for the replacement for the CSM there is the ACE module that has vastly improved capabilities over the CSM.
