Server grade hardware/config forum

It is hard to ask a question or find an answer in forums that deal with overclocking, case lights, framerates and software RAIDs.

Many of AT forum members hold proffesional positions and/or have great deal of knowledge that could contribute to such forum(s)

This was suggested awhile ago but in server software form I believe. I backed the creation of that forum and I'm backing this one. I think there should be a forum created for Network admins, etc to talk about network admin issues.

Perfect example, I just created a topic about our companies blackberry enterprise server in "Software for Windows". Sure, it runs on windows, but I wouldn't put DVD copy software and whatnot in the same category as a BES, SQL, exhcange server, etc.
 
I think your idea would be interesting.

A forum involving virtualization, software development (including CUDA), server form factors, performance per watt, compute density, legal issues and emissions maybe?

What else could be included?

P.S. Could such a forum essentially become an extension of the IT portal? I noticed some interesting comments under the latest article

Maybe we could open more of these comments to discussion by including the forum format as well?

Another request for an Enterprise IT forum.

I'm currently dealing with major upgrades and would like to discuss ideas with people, and I'm sure there are plenty here that are qualified and interested in such discussions, but there is nowhere to put these threads. General Hardware, Networking, etc., are 99.99999% consumer related topics, and any enterprise level topics get drowned out, not to mention that people interested in discussing these topics wouldn't spend much time in those forums anyway.

Current threads I'd like to post about revolve around VMware, Exchange, SAN's, iSCSI, networking (not linksys), HA, DR, backup, migrations, and general business continuity topics. Most of these would be met with a whole lot of 😱 in the current forums. I'm not even sure what Highly Technical is supposed to encompass, but from a quick perusal it doesn't appear to have topics related to enterprise IT being discussed.

After 10 years you'd think AT would be looking to engage such a community, especially since the "IT Computing" section has been around for many years now with no place for discussion other than article comments.

Edit: Just so the key stakeholders of this site might give more thought to implementing such a forum, I'm sure there's plenty more advertising dollars to go around for a forum that has lively discussions of 6 and 7 figure projects people are working on. I couldn't even list all of the potential vendors that would be interested in taking part in, or sponsoring, such a forum (or sub forums). Just look at all the vendor involvement in the VMware communities. Might be a great place to find qualified consultants as well, which is always a chore.

In order, Operating systems, Programming, Cases & Cooling, CPUs and Overclocking, CPUs and Overclocking, OT, Highly Technical (what electronic component has "emissions"? Sure, there are some funky smells given off by silicon, but certainly not enough to worry about).

Software development discussion especially goes to the programming forum. We don't get too many posts there.

I honestly don't see the point of adding another forum. The only way I would support it is if the individual forums were being flooded with server discussion. (or if the combination of the forums makes no sense IE the former PC games & programming forum)

IMHO we have too many forums as is. making another just results in clutter.

Maybe "Enterprise IT" would be a better description for the proposed forum?
 
Yes but with each server only handling 100gb of data, the bandwidth requirement would be much lower. ditto about the hardware power.
 
there used to be a professional IT forum site at it.anandtech.com but it was 99% spam. it's gone now. Seems like there was no demand.
