Hi all. I have a chance to own a server for $60 with the below specs. I want to start playing around with a server and run 2003 Server on it and hook up the two computers that I have at home. I guess it would serve as a educational tool for me to switch from the different types of servers that are out there.

I plan to upgrade the processors to 1GHz-dual but I'm not sure if this socket type is compatible with a processor running that fast. Anyone know what socket type this is? seems to be 100 bus from the RAM specs.

Also, has anyone used a dual p3 500 or 1GHz before and how would a 2003 Server function on this?

dual processor P3 500 mhz
1 gig pc 100 sdram
15 gigabyte quantum ata 100 harddrive cdrom
3x 10/100 network cards matrox g550 videocard

Great buy!, with regards to CPU upgrade, depend if its a slot 1 or socket 375? (which go up to 1.13 tatuala)

You might be able to use a slocket+converter and get faster (check out what some folks have done with the BP6), but even so, it's not a bad box at all, and at $60, is a steal. The RAM is worth more than the whole machine. Slap a nice (but maybe max 120GB) HDD in it, and you've got a nice little server box to use.

It won't be ascreamer, but if you're just going to play and learn with it, it will be more than enough power.
