Update:
Looks like it was the *&@&*(^@^$ router the whole time, I plugged my laptop in, no go, blamed the wire, plugged laptop into different (shorter) cat 5 cord, no go, turned on DHCP on the router, and bam it works. Of course, that means that I can't route ANY ports besides the DMZ :| :| :|
dlink has a way better way of going about things in their setup. The hostname can get it's own IP, in linksys's case, they just plain suck.
orig msg:
For some reason, the networking portion of my server went kaput. I was VNC'ing in and it suddenly disconnected, I couldn't ftp/http/telnet, etc so I cycled the power (no monitor) and nothing happened (it rebooted but I still couldn't get into it) so I plugged in a monitor today and everything worked fine 'cept the network, I can't ping anything, not even the router. So I remove the nics in Device Manager, reboot, nothing helps, so I format, and the same thing, only it's weird, I can see the computers in the workgroup, but I can't ping them, nor can I ping the router still. How the heck is it getting their names if nothing can ping it!!
specs in sig, 2x onboard intel based nics 🙁
