Server date changes to 2020 on NT 4.0

Anyone else had this problem or know what would cause this:

We are running Windows NT server 4.0 SP6a at a client site and they have a problem that happens every so often where their server date automatically changes to the year 2020. It wreaks havoc with their backup software (Backup Exec 8.0) and their accounting software.

They are not on the internet so it can't be coming from the outside...any ideas what may be causing this??? It's driving us nuts!

thats just freakin weird...

done all the normal stuff like look through the event logs and check for virii right?

Also, make sure its not syncing to some time server through some program... also go into cmd and type at and see what kinda events are schduled.

Could also be a hardware thing... bad battery? what kinda hardware are we talkin about anyways?

Abstrak-
I am going to check out the client site on Monday to see what could be causing it.
I will check the event log to see if I can narrow it down to when it is happening. I also plan on doing a BIOS update just for the hell of it.

It is an ASUS P2B-DS Slot 1 Intel 440BX motherboard, dual PII 450's, 256MB Ram running Windows NT 4.0 server.

Any other ideas of what I should check?

I will see what I can find.

I'd check the time server scenario... If it authenticates to any Novell servers it can sometimes capture the time from those servers if it's running the client for Novell... Other than that, I'd definitely do a virus scan... 😉

Okay,
This is what I did in the mean time:
* updated BIOS on server
* turned on security log to alert to any changes in the system time
* changed regional setting short date format to show date as mm/dd/yyyy

Still didn't find what could be causing that but I suspect it may be one of the services that use the Admin account to run. I may change the User Rights Policy and remove permissions from all users under the 'Change the system time' right. Not sure what other problems that may cause by removing that...any ideas?

Thanks
