Server configuration

Hello network crew, I'm writing this for a friend who works in a big corporate network. Coming from the Mac side I try to be as precise as necessary but don't hesitate to ask details if this description is not good enough. He has a Windows 2003 Small Business Server (IP: 192.168.100.2) and two clients (IP: 192.168.200.x). The clients are connected to the server by two SDSL-routers so it's regrettably not possible to solve this locally (the Win2003 server is in another building but he has access to both clients and server).

The clients fail to make successful DNS querries and therefor they can't use Active Directory. They however can ping the server and transfer files via IP. Probably there are some server-side issues with the DNS configuration. So, could you please name some points he should control on the Win2003 Server Box? Thanks in advance.

Figure out what's going on with routing/why he can't get DNS to report back to the clients.

I would
1. Check a local client (does nslookup work)
2. check routing/firewall rules between the networks (disabling DNS stuff?)
3. take a sniff on both network gateway points, where are we loosing DNS packets (maye the server does reply but gets killed off before getting back to the clients)
