I have got my hands on an older server board with 2x Xenon 3.0Ghz (800 fsb) dual core, 8 gigs ram, etc. The board has an 8x PCI-e bus that will accept and 16x video card (with an adapter). This leads me to my question: what video card would be a good match for an "older" system like this? I do not want to drop $500 on a video card, only to have it sit idle as the CPUs struggle to keep up.
Mind, I do not play high end games -- GTR2 racing is perhaps the most demanding app I currently play. I'd like the performance to be at least as good as my current amd64 (socket 754) 3200+ with BFG 6800GT OC.
So, is this board hopeless for such a task, or is there hope to get some use from this?
