Server behind router: will it work?

is it possible to set up a server behind a firewall? it's a school router. how do I obtain the external IP address and such? will any kind of server work behind router firewalls? I'm planning on having an HTTP server, FTP server, to host guitar-related videos and to host internet games and such.

thanks

Yes, it's definitely possible. IF the school administrator will agree to forward ports 80 and 21 (80 for web, 21 for FTP, ) to your personal computer, plus any other ports that your online games require. It's highly unlikely that any school admin would be willing to do this, but if it's that important to you, you could always ask. Otherwise, get a free or cheap web hosting service to put your servers on and you'll just have to connect to other peoples' game servers instead of hosting your own unless you can find a web host that will also let you put games on their system.

thanks for the reply, but I already spent $300 to build a server and would like to put it to use...

thnks
