server authentication through access point

Small office network, all wired with a router running dhcp, file server on the network. Added an access point, actually a netgear router to give some wireless access for a few laptops. I can't see the other PC's or server, so I can't authenticate the login to get to the files on the server, suggestions?
At home I have an internet connection sharing setup for my satellite connection and my housemate gets to it through an SMC access point and has no problem seeing my PC so I'm wondering why this netgear box isn't doing the same thing. Thanks for any help.

How do you the AP/router connected to your network? You should have the wired uplink from the AP/router going from the switch side and not the wan side of the router. Going through the wan port may cause problems since you are going through NAT. If you already have it set up this way, check to see if you can ping addresses of other hosts on the network starting with the IP of the AP.

And there you have it, I knew it should be something simple but just couldn't get my pointy little head around it to figure it out. That should solveit, I'll hook it up that way in just a sec and test it. Thanks.
