I've got a VM thread going in the CPU forum, but I figured while I was at it I'd look for some more help real quick.
I've got 2 sites connected via a fibre lan. I'm hoping to replicate files from a Server 2k3 R2 file server, to another in the other building. This isn't so much for off-site as much as uptime. The other building is less than a quarter mile away, so a tornado could still take out both.. A set of rotating USB drives will take files further away for that.
I'm looking to have the files AND permissions be copied from one server to the other nightly. They should not be transferring more than say 100 GB for even a full syncup.
Real-time sync's would be great.
Anyone have any tutorials or reading that digs in pretty quick? Is there an easier way to do this than DFS? If my main file server were to die (main), could I simply rename (backup) to (main) and re-add it to the domain and have permission, login scripts etc continue to work?
Thanks, I'm just starting to dig into the DFS stuff and want to make sure I cover all my bases.
