We have moved form server 2003 to server 2008 r2 and upgraded our lan to 1gb and I am seeing 112 to 90 MB/sec speeds. But When accessing files with programs such as Microsoft Visio the files pull up slower than before when we had sbs 2003 Visio open files almost instantly.. Any ideas. Is Visio maybe getting overloaded because the access speed has increased

Is AD involved? Did you verify DNS is working properly? Is IPv6 enabled? Have you done any investigation on your own?

Yes I have IPv6 enabled on the server and my computer but some of the clients are xp and dont Ipv6 .. AD is involved is installed on the server but not integrating with Visio , Ive looked into the DNS and didnt see error or anything that was my first thought so I browsed by ip and it was still slow.

All I am doing is browsing to a drawing from visio and opening it

does this happen with any office type document? if so, does your client have an av using a real time scanner? may want to disable that if you do.

How fast is copying the file without involving Visio? What version of Windows is the client?

The server does have and active scanner... the client is xp. Its really just visio thats, doing pdf's work fine. word docs are slow if you double click the file on the server and have initialize word to load, if you open word 1st then click it it opens fast. Visio however it doesnt matter if you load the program 1st its always slow

I'd try disabling IPv6. I've read that in certain instances it is a possible reason that performance is degraded.

I was thinking the same thing, especially if the DNS server doesn't provide AAAA records.

Didnt make a difference.

And the drives on the server are 15k iscsi hard drives so thats not the problem

I guess its just visio ill deal with it
