I've been running this as my desktop for about 2 weeks now and I love it. For legacy games and apps I've also installed Virtual PC for Windows xp, and I'm adding Windows 98se and DOS in the near future. A real steal for students and/or educators.

Little Update:

This has turned out to be the best OS I've ever used. Blazing fast even on moderate hardware, and totally customizable. IMO all power users should have this! Unfortunately the barrier for entry is outlandish for a desktop unless you can get a deal like this or Technet comes back for $99.

Anti-virus software is another story. Only a select variety will work so be prepared to factor in that cost for a complete solution.

same here. my only complaint is it seems to boot up a lot slower than Vista. wonder if something is hanging mine up. For AV I'm using Webroot 6.0. Works great and no modification is necessary to get it installed. You should give it a try.

Is it legal to use it for business while you're a student? What about after you graduate, will the license be invalid for business use?

Edit: Just to clarify, by "business use" I mean your own business, startup or whatever, not some company you work for. I realize that they intended this for educational use, but is it legally required?

I do have a College email address that is in fact a Windows Live ID from a college on the list and it didn't do anything. Also, I have scoured journeyed.com and I am mystified as to the location of this mythical "verification" everyone speeks of like its some giant glowing red button on the front page or something.

Oops apparently the "Go Here" link at the bottom was broken all that time before. Its fixed now and I am waiting on that email. I'm surprised that nobody specifically mentioned that it was that tiny "Go Here" link at the bottom.

Disappointed that my school shows up on the journeyed list but not eligible on MS's list. And I'm at a pretty big school too (Oklahoma State)

Just email a screen shot of your schedule. I'm from Kansas State, and that's what I had to do. It took a couple days to go through, but I got it.
