The other day I reloaded my home Windows 2008 Server, during the server roles setup I installed hyper V todo some software testing. Anyways after I got hyper v and some other server roles install. I went to go install service pack 2, and it wouldnt install due to hyper v being installed and not compatible with server 2008 sp2. Is there any updated versions I can download of hyper v that will work with SP2?

Could you remove the Hyper-V role but leave the virtual machine data, then install SP2, then reinstall Hyper-V role and add the virtual machines back in?

Be sure that your Hyper-V component on your Server 2008 RTM box is NOT the Hyper-V Beta component that came with the original Server 2008.

TechNet Blog on installing SP2 on a Server 2008 Hyper-V server:

"For those of you who have already deployed Hyper-V, SP2 is a simple upgrade. Here are a couple of top-of-mind things to think about when you?re planning your upgrade or fresh install of SP2:

In-place upgrades of Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 SP2 is supported for both the parent partition and child VMs.

o If the Hyper-V role was enabled on the parent partition prior to the upgrade to SP2, it will be automatically enabled once the upgrade is completed.

o Uninstall any prerelease versions of SP2 that might be installed."

yeah that what I did, was removed the hyper-v role, then I installed sp2... then last night I installed hyper-v again.

blah im getting the same symptoms as before when I installed hyper-v before I reloaded server 2008. With hyper-v install, my DHCP server service keeps quiting. I can restart the DHCP Server service on my server and it'll work fine for a few mins, then after that it'll just die again.
