"unable to find file 0xc8000713 (ESE:-1811)"

my whole class is getting this

and we're doing stuff with security certificates

ill update in a sec

edit:

we're backing up the certificate authority then stopping the service

then they had us delete (root letter drive):\windows\system32\certlog\*.*

then restoring the back up we made?

Sounds like the certificate services database is corrupt. A restore would be the first thing to try. If this is a test environment you could just remove cert services and reinstall them as well. Good luck.

Make sure the following registry values point to the correct path for the certsvc database:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\DBDirectory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\DBLogDiretory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\DBSystemDirectory
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CertSvc\Configuration\DBTempDirectory
