I'm trying to schedule tasks on one of my 2003 servers and if I schedule them using the system account (NT AUTHORITY\System) they are erroring out.

In reading the scheduled task log the indicated error is:
The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account information existed for the task.
The specific error is:
0x8007000d: The data is invalid.
Also once a scheduled task has been set to run using the system account proporties for it cannot be modified, when I try and view the properties for it I get the error message:
General page initialization failed.
The specific error is:
0x8007000d: The data is invalid.
The problem occurs if I create a scheduled task using the system account as well as if I create a scheduled task using another account and than change it to use the system account. Scheduled tasks using other accounts work just fine.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why this might be occuring?

I saw a very similar version of this article; however it indicated that deleting the task and creating a new one would allow the volume shadow copy service to continue creating copies automatically. This article doesnt appear to have a resoultion.

For what it's worth I did have the VSC service enabled prior to promoting it.

Yes, this is essentially the problem. PSS has a tool called SysTaskFix.exe that can fix this.

It will delete the encrypted credential set that is causing this issue, then you should be able to update the task. This will create a new set of creds and you should be able to set ntauthority\system as the username for the task.

Do I have to call PSS to get this?

I dont particularily like the process of getting billed so I can get a download and than having the charge reversed; any possiblility I can get this another way?

Calling is the only way to get this tool. This is not a hotfix, but still a problem caused by the OS, so you should not be charged at all.

Make sure you explain all of this to the CSR.

I have this same problem and need the SysTaskFix.exe tool to fix it.

I called PSS about this tool, and they didn't seem to know anything about it. At least the robot at level 1 answering the phone didn't know what I meant. Without an actualy KB article number pointing at a free hotfix, they will charge me $245 just to talk to them, and even then they don't know anything about this tool.

Do you have more information on this? Or another way I can get the tool?
