Seriously, what is the best mouse for gaming?

My vote goes to the Logitech Trackman Marble. Not actually a mouse, but it's worked great for me, had the same one for the last 5 years. It's been on 4 PC's. I love the fact I don't have to move my hand around, especially when plaing FPS like UT. I watched a friend play UT with a mouse and he was working up a sweat from his hand flying all over the place. I love my trackman!

This is an easy qusetion, with out a doubt, the Microsoft Intellimouse explorer 3.0 is the best mouse. It scans at 6000 times a second. No matter how fast I move mine I cannot get it to skip or act up.

Another vote goes to Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 Even some review sites stated the same. No ball to clean (sorry razer) and extremely fast polling so you can move it real fast with no jumps. 5 buttons and the scroll wheel make it very versitle for programming. I was actually going to get the Logitech Duel optical, but it was a bit uncomfortable and not as accurate.

I would vote for the Logitech Dual optical.

I have it and the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and each has its advantages. The ie3 does track better in general, but if you are using a mousepad and tend not to really twitch then both mice track equally well. I find that the logitech works fine for everything unless I try to move it across my mousepad as fast as my arm well move - then yes, it will skip. My only real complaint with how the ie3 moves is that it seems to stick to my mousepad if I haven't moved it for more than about half a second. This is actually really annoying and for me makes it unsuitable for gaming. However, once it is in motion it moves quiet easily. The logitech does not have this initial movement problem, presumably due to smaller mouse "feet" or perhaps a different material for the feet.

In terms of feel in my hand, the ms mouse feels more natural at first so many people would probably pick it in a store, but the logitech really does feel better in the long run and IMO it is easier to aim with it. I also find the ie3 to be too light for gaming (but just about right for general desktop navigation). And finally, the side button on the logitech is more comfortable to push than either side button on the ie3, plus the two main buttons on the ie3 seem to be way too easy to push.

If you are really serious, be sure to get a good mousepad as well. I would recommend getting a fUnc pad and using the textured side.

I like the IntelliMouse Optical.. more comfortable than the Explorer, has the same amount of buttons, same programability.

does the Microsoft Intellimouse explorer still drop dead like i've heard many times (eg "This is the 3rd Intellimouse i've had die on me~!")?

I'm not sure if its still applicable..

A good old logitech first pilot mouse. the one with the metall ball not the newer ones with soft balls. That's all you need. The heavier the mouse the more precise you can aim. Just my opinion...

I am all about the IntelliMouse Optical... great response, and those extra buttons are pretty useful. The only qualm is the button on the right side is hard to get at, especially if you are in a busy firefight. But I love using the left button to reload my weapon is C-S.

Search for "gaming mouse" and you should find alot of results, but I will repeat what I have said in all these threads:
Go to a local comp USA or best buy or something and try the mice out. Buy one that feels best to you

That being said, back in the day when I played alot of SC, I used to use a Mouse Man 96, possibly the best mouse for RTS players. Now I use a M$ Explorer Optical

For FPS games, I like using the MS Optical Trackball Explorer (silver with 4 buttons) along with the USB version CLAW.

The Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 is the best mouse i've personally ever used.

<<works fine for everything unless I try to move it across my mousepad as fast as my arm well move - then yes, it will skip>> You definately don't want that during games.

Also to answer your question about Intellimouse Explorers breaking. The original 1.0 did have some problems with the cord disconnecting from the inside. I had 3 of them and never saw this problem (still use one on my server, one for my laptop, and one on my wifes machine) and they've been running good for years. I have heard of the problems though. If you call Microsoft, they send you a brand new one the next day via Airborne 2nd day or overnight. They have OUTSTANDING service on their hardware, no doubt about that.

I use an 3.0 for CS and other games, i love it :D

That is true. However, I'm pretty sure most normal people don't jerk their arm to the point of injury if kept up repeatedly :p in order to move their mouse for aiming. That is really the only time I am able to make my logitech to skip when used on the textured side of a fUnc.

And to most of the rest of you: This thread is turning into a mouse popularity contest. Please only reply if you can provide a comparison of at least two different mice based on your own experience (seeing one in a store does not count).

This is true,I`ve yet to have my old Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel skip during gaming with my Everglide Giganta mouse pad with games like CS,UT,DoD etc, however the best two mice IMHO are the Logitech Dual Optical & Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer V3.

tweak, this is not something that I am just kinda throwing out there. I have gone through a ton of mouses and I have not been able to come up with a solution that is to my liking. For instance, I have tried ms treker, explorer (serial), a couple different wireless, Alps, marble, etc... I have not tried the Boomslang and have heard mixed reviews aobut it. Mostly negative.

Thanks for the feedback yall. I think I'll look for a good price on both the optical and the intellimouse explorer.

Any one else got any ideas

Edit: tone to ton

*note: hint of sarcasm ahead*

Can anyone hear confirm the implied ability of the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 to keep complete accuracy in tracking even when I am moving my arm as fast as I possibly can? This is an activity I do with GREAT frequency and it disappoints me that my Dual Optical mouse cannot keep up with my arm. I will switch to the 3.0 if it can indeed track THAT accurately.:)

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Razer Boomslang yet. The mouse rocks compared to all these mice. If your a hardcore gamer there is no other option. They are getting tough to find however as the company is struggling. But you can still find a steady supply on Ebay if they stopped taking orders from their site.
