Man, people get SO pissy about "OMG, firewerkz R b&!!! OH NOES!!" and I just don't understand it! Heck, it's well known that states that DO ban them - or states that heavily regular them - have MASSIVE fireworks warehouses right across the border on each major state route entering them.

What's the attractiveness in this? I mean, I'm American, born and raised, and do enjoy a decent (professional) 4th of July show. (And disapprove mightily of cities that throw one but hire some half-ass team to do it and it just comes off as LAME)

I just don't understand everyone's obsession with setting them off THEMSELVES, though. What's the point? It's moderately dangerous even when done PROPERLY, and it's not like you'll ever hold a candle to a full-on professional show ANYWAY.

Damn man, whats your problem? You dont like fire and big bangs? 🙂 I love setting off fireworks 🙂

Say that after some moron throws a firecracker at you and it blows up in your face (happened to me).

So you think that's a reason to ban firecrackers? What if the moron picked up a rock and threw it at your face? Should we ban rocks?

Or maybe should we ban the moron (by putting them in jail) that throws dangerous things in people's faces?

It's that kind of brainless thinking which gets everyone's rights taken away. Instead of blaming the people who abuse them, they just take them away from everybody.

Because people are stupid. I had a friend when I was growing up who was totally clumsy, uncoordinated and accident prone. He's the kid who fell off his bike and busts his head open. He's the kid who gets hurt climbing fences. He's the kid who had firecrackers blow up in his hands. He's the kid who shot himself with BB guns.

Instead of firmly putting the blame on the clumsy kids who attempt to do things that non-clumsy kids do, the authorities blame everything BUT the kids like that, and ruin it for everybody.

It is 10x more fun to light your own fireworks than it is to watch them from a distance. I don't even see an argument here. Most professional shows only use a set specific firework too, which extremely limits what you're going to see, IE all fireworks at a show go up to a certain specified height and explode. There is a lot more to fireworks than that basic design.

My only issue is people who are inconsiderate with fireworks and light them off in the city, leaving the remains in their neighbors yards to pickup after them.

Edit: We used to love playing with Thunder Sticks. If you havn't heard of these, maybe you've heard of Romen Candles. Romen Candles are like Thunder Sticks retarded brother. Romen Candles burn and fire little orbs out a few feet and usually screw up at some point. Thunder Sticks burn and fire orbs of light out of them like 30 feet and create a sound like a shotgun going off when they explode. People used to report hunters in the off season whenever we lit these off.

You should see the show at the end of the Coast Guard Festival every year in Grand Haven, MI.

Big, little, low, high, the fireworks are done on a small island across from the waterfront, with one of the world's largest water fountains (multiple jets which can be angled/lengthened and change colors) and choreographed with music (matching by color, or through height/frequency, hard to describe). I think you would like the show.

I saw it once as a child and have now driven across the state 3 years running with my wife, this will be the 4th year. She didn't understand my fascination with a fireworks show until she saw it...eventually we'll actually attend the festivities on of these years (2 week long festival with carnival rides, tours of CG ships, food, blah blah).

Grand Haven also has city-wide wi-fi coverage.

Awesome! When will it be this year? I'd like to see it.

Nevermind, I found it, just bought two tickets to the rock concert and the fireworks display right after! Woot!
