Seriously considering giving up drinking...

I know it's cliche, but I'm serious. Last night's bender has left me in awfully rough shape. I'm nearly twenty-five and I just can't handle it like I used to. I don't have as good a time, nor can I really afford it.

You see, the last eight years of my life have revolved around inebriation. I've been good about it in that it hasn't effected my daily life, but once the weekend hit it was time to start pounding. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars, lost friends, caused all kinds of grief, and embarrassed myself countless times.

I don't plan on giving up booze totally, but I think my days of getting ratted are numbered...

I'm on a 2 week drinking hiatus after my side right where my liver is supposed to be has been sore for like 2 weeks straight...

You are finally growing out of it... good. Most people grow out of the whole "getting drunk to have fun" concept in their late 20s. Some don't and it turns into a "I need it to stay me" thing as an alcoholic.

Good luck! 🙂

Congratulations, that's what alcoholics call a "moment of clarity." Use it to rid yourself of these problems before you wake up drunk in a ditch, spooning with a homeless guy. 🙂

Start chillin' in on the weekends. Smoke a doob (or eat a special-recipe brownie, if youre not into smoking) and watch a movie. MUCH easier on your health than going on an alcohol bender, plus the inebriation is still there.

It's a near-100% replacement as far as I'm concerned.

Yes! Leave one drug for another!

retard :disgust:

I arrived at this conclusion when I was 18 (right after my first 'bender'). My resolved lasted 2 whole years until 2 months ago.

I figure once every 2 years isn't bad...

Amen.

I am in the EXACT situation. I went to a keg party last night, and i'm really really rough today. Drinking and getting rotten drunk has really lost it's appeal to me.

starting up pot is not a better answer

I don't get very drunk often, but seeing my roommate fvcked up and acting like a moron makes me not want to drink. I think I will smoke weed instead.

I'm kind of in the same situation. I had a rough weekend a while back that left me alcohol poisoned. Took a long time to recover and now, a month later, just thinking about taking a shot of something makes me shudder.

I'm going over to my parents in a little while. I can hear it now:

Mum: What's wrong? You look hungover. Did you get pissed last night?
Me: Yeah.
Mum: Oh, Jeremy, you shouldn't do that to yourself. I wish you'd stop. It used to break my heart when I'd find you passed out on the couch with your jacket and your shoes still on.

If you give up booze now, what will you have left?

A beautiful and loving girlfriend, a 25-pound cat, and a lot of bitter friends. Oh, and I'll be several hundred dollars richer each month...

True. It's not a question of giving something up and wondering what's left, but rather having the clarity to think about what is gained.

At my prime I was spending a couple of hundred a weekend.

I do drink beer, it is my drink of choice. I usually drink twenty-plus bottles an evening. Still, gin and vodka are a better drunk. One night I drank a bottle of gin and awoke standing up, fully-clothed in the shower of my hotel room. The door was closed and the light was off. I had no idea where I was.

yeah bud, it sounds like youve been getting not just drunk, but rip roarin' wasted.... take it easy. Having a few beers to chill aint bad, but whats the point if you just drink/pass out/dont remember anything?

I personaly think the good feeling in drinking comes from just starting to buzz and holding that for a while. Its when you go beyond that, you start to feel sick, dont remember anything, and wake up the next morning feeling like sh*t run over 30x by a semi.
