Serious Video Card Problem...

I bought a GeForce3Ti200 about 5 months ago. Everytime I played a game, it would give me a program error screen and shut off the game I am playing. It pissed me off. Like hell. Luckily, the card was a PNY one. It has a lifetime replacement warranty. I sent it back a few weeks ago and in the meantime I have been using an old ATi Speedstar A90 card. No problems whatsoever. The card came back today. They sent me a brand new one. I quickly installed it and loaded Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Guess what? Program error when I start playing. Happnes with all graphics intensive games I'm playing, but not with game with um..Whats the word...cheap graphics, like Starcraft. Now I know it wasn't my graphics card after all. So it must be my computer. I am thinking the drivers for my motherboard and so I am downloading the latest drivers(Epox 8K7A). I'm running Windows 2000. 512 MB DDR SDRAM. AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz 266/FSB. I don't know what to do except install new drivers. Anybody have a clue as to what might be causing the problem and how it can be solved?

A million thanks,

~hypersonic5

What 4 in 1`s are you using...? Some of the 4 in 1 drivers and certain boards dont get along very well... (so I`ve heard...?)

4...In...1's?

<--- Stupid.

I think they were the ones that came on the CD with my motherboard...Thing is...I get an KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error...Which only happens on windows NT...Which means that my OS is probably the problem...I'll have to reformat and install 98...

What do you think?

Couple of things come to mind on this... #1 just because you installed the drivers that came with the board does not mean it will work perfect (as may be the case now) you might consider downloading the newest drivers...? (though it may not use the 4 in 1`s there are updated drivers for it... ;)

Hypersonic5... sorry I took it as you thought my answer was "stupid"...? My bad...

"<< <--- Stupid. >>

comment is uncalled for... If you want help (since you asked with your post) then dont tell someone their answer is not what you expected or think is right... You will find however here on Anandtech that people will quickly notice things like this and not offer to help you... (hummm...? noticed very little response to your thread...?) Either thank people for their advice or say nothing and use what you want... Good luck with your problem but consider how you respond to help..."

I called myself stupid because I did not know what he was talking about...

Anyways, its not a problem with my graphics card, thats for sure. I made a dual boot system with Windows 98 and 200 and tried playing games on both and the games both shhut off after a while.

I'm pretty pissed off about this. All I want to do i play a freaking game. It wont let me. God, I hate computers...

Do you have IRQ set to agp in bios?
What is your agp arpeture (sp) set to in bios?
Is there a bios update to your board?
Have you tried a google group search to see if it is a common problem?
Have you looked for a patch for the games?

Also might try updating direct x.
Aslo check AGP speed setting try 2X and see what happens.

Here is a link to the drivers page for your board... :) It is possible the 2X setting that "Willoughbyva" mentioned could help you problem...?

It could just be the GF3 200ti that your using is incompatible with the motherboard that you have... :( (or say not 100%) After re-reading your first post the problem was with both GF3 200ti cards and intense graphics... I would either borrow or buy a GF2 GTS and try it on the same games...? (cheap now like $50 new)

Again sorry to misunderstand your answer and we will do our best to help with your problem... ;)
