Serious start-up problems

Just assembled my system based upon the K8V w/ath 64 3000+. Very odd problem - the system boots when I turn on the power supply and the power switch is not functional. I thought it might be a defective switch so I disconnected all the front panel connections from the board to the case and it still boots. Any ideas?

Perhaps your board is shorting out on something. Start by looking at the rear of the computer, and see if any of the springy finger things on the I/O shield have sneaked into the network or USB ports back there (pic of the springy finger things on the I/O shield here). If that isn't the problem, remove the motherboard from the case and try running it on cardboard, with no case wiring or drives hooked up at all. While it's out, confirm that there are standoffs installed only in positions that match up to holes in the motherboard.

Good luck and post back with your findings :) Welcome to the Forums.

Thanks for the reply mech. I got this fixed but in all my computer building this one was unique. First I cleared the CMOS - that solved the boot-up when the PS was turned on but still the power button would not work. Took of the face plate and re-aligned (for lack of a better word) the pin in the power switch. All is well now - at least until the switch gets goofy again.

thanks again
