Is it a full game or some sort of add-on for the original game? I'm not a serious gamer(no pun intended).

No it's NOT a full game. It is a standalone - part two of three in a series. It does not end . . . you are just defeating the second (major) boss. Serious Sam, the Final Encounter should be out next year (I think).

What kind of power do I need to play Serious Sam?

I normally don't play FPS, but I was intrigued to try some. Can my G450 run this thing at all? Or do I need to get a new video card?

Not that much power to play SS,SE.

I played it very well on my Win2K notebook (P-III 866-M/ATI 16MB DDR Mobility Radeon) at 800x600 @32 and details 'high' with no slowdowns.

Of course, when I got home, my Win98SE desktop - 1.24Ghz Tualatin Celeron/ATI Radeon 64 - renders it much better.

Damn.. the Matrox user's dilemma. :)

Maybe I should sell my G450 AGP and get a G450 PCI. :)

<< It is so a full game. It may not be a full SERIES, but it is a full game. It has no prerequisits or dependence upon any other program to fully function. >>

Is not.

:D

Actually, I covered my bases by pointing out that it is a standalone game. However, it does NOT end and clearly says "to be continued" when you beat the SE Boss. It's also pretty clear that it continues on from the First Encounter with identical gameplay and weapons . . .

Its still a full game, as in non-shareware or trial or demo or whatever else you want to call it. It doesnt matter if its part of a series, or theres another sequel planned.

Whatever. Do you think Star Wars; First Episode is a "full" movie or part of a series? What about LOTR, Fellowhip? I think we are arguing from different points of view. I'd also like to suggest that "First Encounter" ends more decisively than the Second. That's probably because it's success was not assured.

However, I do agree about the "fun" factor being very high. And I highly recommend both standalone SS episodes.

OK. Now I'll look for benchies on Serious Sam with G450. :)

Matrox promotes G450 for some dualhead feature in SS. So hopefully it will run at a decent FPS for me.

Damn.. the game is so cheap too. I found it for $30 Canadian at Walmart. :D

I just want to warn you about buying SS at Walmart.
They have some special cheaper shorter version .
Make sure its a full game before you buy it.

Shorter Walmart version is clearly marked as such.

Oh! Thanks.

What is the deal with the shorter version?

I've seen games in smaller packages. Are you referring to those? What do I miss?

It's not necessarily the smaller package. I got the smaller package and got the full game. I don't usually buy software at walmart, so I'm not familliar with what to look for to indicate whether a game is complete or not. I got mine at borders for $20 though (US dollars).

Maybe I'll go to Electronic Boutique instead then. :)

I don't normally go to Walmart for software either, but I was off to buy my brother a new N64 game before they clear the shelves and the mall was closed by the time we got there. So we went off to Walmart and while my little brother was checking out Gamecube and Sonic, I looked around the computer game section. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure before I buy.

joohang, Compusmart is selling it for $25Cdn., thought it was too cheap to be a full game. :) Includes "death match 3!"...whatever that is. Oh if anyone is interested, they sell the first one for $20Cdn.

Nice.

But I'd rather just walk 5 minutes down to the mall and grab one myself. :) Quicker and about the same price any ways with shipping and stuff.

Thanks, though. :)
