Serious Sam SE - Ok I knew it was hard but give me a break

SSSE is one of the most visually stunning games I have ever seen on my Radeon but "seriously" with limited ammo and the amount of baddies the game troughs at you goes ridiculously off the scale. I admit I had to cheat to get more ammo but when I got to the level where about a couple of hundred baddies of every sort were jumping up and down in this scare room, it put me over the edge and ripped it out of my putter.

Surely with the awsome engine and graphics that SS has they could do something better than this.

What is the "scary room"?

I remember a room where I kept bouncing up and down, as well as the bad guys. Probably the same room you are describing. The key was grabbing the ammo pack in the middle of the room, getting the health on the ledges, using the flamethrower and keep moving (Wait, aren't all rooms like that?). Man, that was tough, but after twenty or so tries, I got through it. If it wasn't for my two boys pushing me, I would have probably packed it up also.

The other room that was interesting was Darwin's Room. It was a cylindrical room that allowed you to walk all around it.

What I want to know is what level are these guys playing at that can get through this game in 2 days...Tourist Level?

I beat it in 2 days playing normal. Cant say I didnt get frustrated at certain points. Id have to say out of all of it, that one stupid bouncy room was the hardest.

Just keep at it....

Oh oh...........

so......even tho I just bought this:

1. I shouldn't bother with it, since the only FPS I've ever played was Doom (which totally blew me away...in the day)?

and......

2. I guess it won't be the first game I play on my LAN, with my non-gaming gf????? I was thinkin' we could both start not knowin' nothin'.

If anyone thinks otherwise, and would be so kind as to provide links to FAQ's/helps, to get me/her into this game quickly, I'd appreciate it. I was wantin' something that would be such an eye-opening, butt-kicker, that she'd be hooked forever. NUTS.... Well, she is a bit hooked on blackjack on Hoyle Casino 6.

Two short days . . .

on "Easy"
(so what) :p

Just remember your "strafe & retreat" strategy . . . and the occasional Serious Bomb . . . :)

Take it slow and save often. (You really don't need a "walkthrough" . . . don't forget the warp to the pumpkin patch in the Grand Cathedral after the infinite body count message and to shoot out the eye in the top window in the wall for invulnerability just before you run through the exploding cannon balls . . . )

I was really disappointed in SSSE . . . I'd have much rather seen ONE $50 game than 3 segments streched over 3 years for $60.

EDIT: I just started Unreal Gold a few night ago . . . now THAT's a game! And it runs very good on my notebook . . . on the other hand, SSSE requires me to lower my desktop to 800x600 to get all the details without any slowdown. I hope "SS, The Conclusion" is worth it.

I'm in that Darwin room right now. Got my arse spanked about 5 times so far and haven't touched it in about 5 days.

I really like the game though, that bouncy room was a bitch, but you have to get that ammo pack in the middle and use the flame thrower like CPA said.

Think of SS:SE as a visually updated doom. It looks great and the gameplay is pretty similar.

I agree this helps, but if you look closely in that window with your sniper rifle, you may see something different than an "eye". :)

SSSE is a great game. There are hard parts but if your patient and look around, Croteam always left a little something in the room to aid your effort. Sometimes it's hidden. I've played the entire game through, start to finish on "normal" skill without a single cheat code and it took me about a week, playing around 5 hours a day. Granted, there was rooms that I tried about 20 times before I got through them. The last boss is a bitch.

Look for the secrets. I think that's one of the best parts of the game. Some of them are just jokes, but most of them are power-ups that will help your cause. There's a few that will do you in too. :) There's 134 secrets in the game!

Bought this a few weeks ago and loaded up the dedicated server on the final level on hard. Got my brother over (who picked it up), and we played the last level with a few people that joined online. A good blast of fun, especially with co-op.

The thing about the secrets, though, is that once you get one it always seems as if you instantly have a mess of baddies beatin' the hell out of ya. Sometimes, I pass on the secret item (once I have found it) just because I don't want to mess with trying to destroy a bunch of additional monsters.

I'm in the Pit level, playing it on Serious and it is soooooooooooooo hard. It's taking ages. Secret is to save regularly and now I'm making progress.....

Difficult.....I can tell you. ;)

Thanks for the pointers guys. Oh......seems to me that I have Unreal Gold somewhere.....hmm......

OK....I don't mind being a wuss and playin' SSSE on crybaby level.....if it means my gf will also be able to play it.

Can my gf and I play in coop mode over my LAN? I haven't even opened the box yet.

"Tourist" playing strength is fine for learning . . . your health automatically replenishes . . . with the harder playing strengths you also take more damage.

What I am really curious about is your GF's reaction to the game . . . I still haven't found one that likes (really violent) FPS. :(

That last boss was really easy (compared to SS#1) . . . just "ignore" (to staying alive) the enemies that are summoned and concentrate major firepower on the Big Guy. (I got him the first time I tried - talk about mixed emotions . . . ) ;) :)

apoppin--Actually, an ex-GF was addicted to Q3. I'd call her, and she'd be playin' it. She'd come home from work and play til 2am. Said it relieved her stress. She just loved shootin' guys......didn't give a flip about strategy or tactics. Weird, she didn't really like violent movies....especially where someone was gettin' hit on.

OK....we'll give SSSE a go. Thanks.

I didn't read all the previous posts so I hope Im not redundant here but I've found Second edition to be easier than than first. I'm almost done with it and I think the sniper rifle and flamethrower are really handy at preventing and gettting you out of tough spots. So far, the hardest board for me was a secret yard I found about half way through the game...I probably tried it 20 - 25 times before i made it past. SS I probably did some of those areas literally 50+ times. Anyways just my humble opinion...Oh, and I play them on hard.....
