Great news! I have the first HD one downloaded at home, but I have not had a chance to play it yet. :\

I think I liked the second one even more than the first, though it's been forever since I played either, so I can't recall for sure. Regardless, I am excited.

Is the HD first encounter worth purchasing? I've never played Serious Sam.

You dont know what youre missing. Its a great coop game. Keep in mind, this game is from a while back, and its all mindless shooting of monsters and hordes of creatures, but its still damn fun.

I havnt played this new HD version but, its been years since I cooped the first one, so I wouldnt mind playing it again.

If you want a very fast-paced game with the philosophy of "shoot everything that moves", then undoubtedly yes.

i saw the first one got a 5.0 review at gamespot, although ign gave it a better score of 7.5.
is it really as buggy as the review says?

Are they modifying story and characters ? Besides that where is the 3rd series of the game ? I mean they forgot about it or something ?

I gladly welcome these revamped editions of the older games. Seems like they're just building up to SS3 with them.

Note: "User Score 8.0"

I haven't ran into any issues - I love it. Runs beautifully, too. :D

I liked it. It's the same thing with better graphics and sometimes vehicles.

They need to have a demo on Steam. I already own the originals and dont wanna pay 20 bucks for a minimal graphics upgrade.

yea if you played the originals, i'd just wait for serious sam 3 instead of shelling out money to replay old game with fancy graphics.

I totally disagree. Being a huge Serious Sam fan I am absolutely loving Serious Sam HD. It's been a long time since I've played the original and it feels like a whole new game to me. Now, if you've played through it in the last year or two then I might opt out, but if it's been a while definitely pick it up. And, you're supporting an awesome company.

The one complaint I have with it was that there were very few, if any, very wide open areas. Too much alley fighting.

here's what gamespot said about the game's bug/stability problems.

Gamespot said:
Actually, there are more reasons to avoid the HD version of The First Encounter than to "upgrade" to it. Most notably, the game is incredibly buggy at launch. Incompatibilities with video and audio drivers have caused trouble for many users. Some even make the game virtually impossible to play. A quick glance at either the Croteam or Steam forums reveals how many gamers are having trouble. We ran into the main sound glitch noted online where the game crashes constantly due to a bug with audio sample rates. Both Windows XP and 7 were affected here, with the game locking up so frequently and even forcing occasional system reboots that it was unplayable. Even the first patch did nothing to rectify this problem. You can play the game fine with sound disabled in Windows, but that isn't a reasonable fix. Only editing an obscure line in the game's configuration file seems to clear up the issues. All in all, we spent at least six hours struggling with this annoying issue--which, coincidentally, is about the same amount of time it takes to finish the single-player part of the game. Croteam obviously kicked this one out the door long before it was ready for primetime.

Has anyone here had any of those problems? I haven't - it ran flawlessly from installation.
