I installed the game last night and it seemed pretty buggy. I played the demo which was really short but it didn't have any audio problems at all.

The retail box sounds like you're scratching your fingernails across a chalkboard at certain parts and then it sounds fine. It continues to do this all through the game. I turned off EAX, same, not sure what the problem could be. I can try to update the audio drivers again but I bet I have the latest version (can't say they update these drivers very often anymore).

I have an nForce 2 board and had troubles with sound in CS:S aswell as BF2 had to stick in a PCI sound card to fix it

I have CS:S and BF2, and all the latest games as well (Quake 4, FEAR, Battlefront2, etc) as older games, but I have never had any sound issues at all. I just bought a new sound card not long ago, one of those X-Mystique cards from Blue Gears. I haven't put it in yet but I've been thinking about doing that. This sounds kind of strange though, it's almost like it's not compatible or it needs newer drivers. I just got home so I'm going to check the drivers to see if there are newer ones.
