The poll isn't suppose to reflect that you are in fact a homosexual. It is suppose to ask you if you were a homosexual what you would like to be called.

If I were to be proud to be homosexual I would in fact want to be called homosexual.

But, as I am not a homosexual I wouldn't want to be called some generic incorrect term for being homosexual.

If none of us that have replied are homosexuals, how would we know what it feels like? Go ask a homosexual/gay person...

I'm not a dark skinned African-descended person, I wouldn't want to be called black either.

I don't think people should be "proud" to be homosexual anymore than they should be proud to be hetero. It should be just the way you are, and you're comfortable and happy that way, and don't care who knows. At any rate though, those who are proud, are proud of being homosexual, but they use an alternate word for it which is easier to say and less clinical, and is colloquially more associated with the culture in which they participate.

Technically, your question was "I am asking homosexual ATers what they think is the appropriate name to call a homosexual and do you agree that homosexuals are afraid of the word homosexual", you didn't say anything about asking straight people what they would want if they were homo.

You're thinking way too much about this. Is there something you'd like to tell the group?

i think you'd be straight if you were, double negatives canceling each other out.

I dont think so... would it? I mean, saying I'm a Chinese Asian doesn't make me all of the sudden white...

Are you saying being gay or homosexual are negatives?

How about a male lesbian, liking women but as a woman likes a women.

Ok, my teacher was arguing with me about the word gay and homosexual.
I said "gay means happy, are homosexuals scared of the word homosexual?"
She said something to the effect of "go to the office..." .
All because I voiced my opinion/had an intelligent conversation with a not so intelligent/misinfomed teacher.

Now do you wonder why people dont speak up anymore about important issues?

so i am asking homosexual ATers what they think is the appropriate name to call a homosexual and do you agree that homosexuals are afraid of the word homosexual.

are you afraid of the word heterosexual (straight people)?

BE RESPECTFUL

You're not being very respectfull when you create a thread in forum isues asking the mod to ban people who disagree with you in this thread.

It won't be long before you get your own ban.

All my gay and bi friends love to call others and themselves "fagg0ts" Go figure :Q
I really doubt they'd care being called gay or homosexual.

There's a difference between being proud and being a flamer, that most people don't see. I'm proud that I'm gay, but most people don't know that about me (at least those that just know me casually or at work or etc). I'm also proud of my accomplishments at a few organizations that I've worked & volunteered for. I'm proud that my friends trust me enough that I'm frequently the first person they turn to for help. I'm proud to be carrying on my mother's maiden name, rather than the name of my &*%$ father. Few people (IRL, at least) know any or much of that, either. There's nothing wrong with being proud; there is something very wrong (in my opinion at least) with being a flamer.

</rambling>

Gay means happy. Gay means homosexual. Gay is also derogatory. They're separate meanings. I'm not scared of the word homosexual, it's just less used than gay, in much the same way heterosexual is less used than straight. This thread is odd. 😕

Given the right context, everything is appropriate. 😉 I generally don't have a problem with the more offense derogatory terms toward homosexuals (i love you, queer, etc), as long as the person saying them is also homosexual or is well known to be friendly toward gays.
