I can't seem to find my passport and will have to probally replace it. I have my birth certificate, but no Drivers Licence, I have a health card, student ID (photo student ID). I could write my G1 test and get a temp drivers licence I suppose, but not sure if that would help.

I have a ticket to Bakersfield on Dec 19th. Taking the greyhound down. So question is, will I be able to;

1) Get through the Windsor checkpoint with my birth certificate, health card, student ID

?

November 19th of...next year? You can't replace your passport before then?

In either case, well, I think the passport thing comes into play in January?

This is the last month to be able to do so with the ID you've mentioned. I'd double check, just to make sure though. I've found the whole thing ridiculous. Canada is our friend. We shouldn't need passports to go to Canada (or vice versa). And since I was born, until the last few years, you drove to the border "country of origin please?" "United States" "why are you going to Canada today?" "We're going over to the falls & doing a little shopping." "Okay, go ahead." That was it. But today? Oh nooooo.... Terrorists. Apparently our government that can't keep illegal immigrants out from Mexico is going to stop terrorists from crossing the longest border in the world, more than 2.5 times longer than Mexico's border, by inconveniencing all the law abiding citizens of both countries who want to visit the other. I still haven't figured out the part about how those terrorists drive from the middle east (or wherever they're from) to the Canadian border in the first place.

Seriously, you shouldn't need a passport to cross here from Canada. That should be an open border. I don't know what the hell our administration was thinking when they came up with that great idea.

Do you know how lax Canada's immigration is? It isn't real Canadians we are trying to hamper from getting over here.

I always have problem going to states, don't know why.

here is an example of real life experience

Agent: Pop the trunk
me: [fumble through the whole rental car looking for trunk release, decided to take key to back]

[open trunk]

agent:[flip through bag] How long are you visiting for ?

me: 3 days

agent:This is all the cloath you are carrying for 3 days?

me :[about to blow up] how much cloth do you think I need for 3 days?

agent: uhuh

I get pulled into the "station" all the time. Usually just sit there for 10-15 and then they hand me back my passport and tell me I can go. I swear, it's SDIFOX profiling.

I must look like a terrorist or something.

Come to think of it, the best crossing for me was when there was a token white female on the car. They were so fucking polite it was unreal. I wanted to ask if I was indeed crossing into the USA but was able to refrain from doing so.

You mean like when I was still a landed immigrant my whole family applied for visa together as one application (dad wanted to road trip through NY). 4 of my family member got 5 years, 1 got 6 month. Care to guess who got 6 month?

You seriously think the border patrol is going to be able to stumble upon terrorists?

It's hit or miss. I've been through the border in a Tisdale tour bus. The guard basically said "all Canadians?" The driver said yes. We went through.

Coming back into Canada it felt like it was a drug raid. Thanfully everyone had their ID.

I do not trust those dirty canucks to do proper border security in their country.. we definitely need to screen all coming from the north

you're on a greyhound bus, not having a passport is the least of your concerns

just bring lots of those pics you have been posting lately, and show them to the border guards.

you should be able to travel anywhere with no questions asked.
