Out of curiosity, there are 12 major denominations of Christians, not including the smaller churches -- why go with a non-Christian church?

you are implying that the church in question is "non-Christian" , that is false

The mormon church is not christian in the least.

Sigh... I thought this was settled.

Why don't I ask you a couple of questions?
First, what is the definition of the word "Christian"?
Second, who do you think will decide who is saved and who is damned? God... or you?

In the meantime, you might want to take that plank out of your eye. It is clouding your vision, I think.

In the Biblical (and even literal) sense of the word, Mormons are not Christians. Although this is by no means a definitive scholary explanation, it does correctly identify the differences as well as provide the necessary evidence.

It's not false. One of the major points in contention between the mormon faith and Christianity is the concept of God, which is foundational to any faith.
so the fact that every member of this church believes Jesus Christ is their savior and every member of this church believes in the atonement of Jesus Christ is meaningless?

the members of this church are not christians because they believe in doing good works ?

i don't get why non-mormons think they can decide that 10 million people don't believe in Jesus Christ

basically you are saying all mormons don't believe in Jesus Christ even though they all say/think/know they believe in Jesus Christ.

so they are all lying? or what?

as i said at the beginning , read the posts in this thread by athiests/agnostics and compare that to what the "Religious" people (with 3-4 exceptions i am happy to see) posted, many "christians" hate the LDS church and are happy to share their hate openly and are happy to point people to anti-mormon web sites.

if you want to know what catholics believe, do you talk to a Baptist preacher? or a Catholic priest? if you want to learn about Judism, talk to a rabbii ? or an islamic cleric?

freedom of choice
is what you got
freedom of choice!

Don't beat around the bush. Mormonism has dozens of beliefs that are clearly contrary to the bible. Who is damned or not means nothing to me, as long as you are living you aren't damned. Man judges the living, God judges the dead.

Try going to a Quaker meeting, and you'll meet the nicest group of people you ever met...without all of the pushy religious stuff and an insanely strict code to follow.

My linear mathematics professor was a Quaker, and he was awesome. Perhaps we are on to something here... hmmm :)

They may interpret the Bible differently from the way your do. You seem to be beating around the bush instead of answering the questions. Some in Jesus' day thought his teachings contradicted the Old Testament...and of course, he didn't.

You don't know much about Mormonism then, because there is no matter of interpretation here.

Do Mormons believe in Christ? If they do, they are Christians, no matter what other subjects in the bible they don't agree with. That's why it's called "christianity". Jesus Christ, it shouldn't be open to interpretation.

unless you speak and discuss in ancient hebrew, any translation is technically an interpretation

I'd say don't bother with religion; it's outdated.

Instead, enjoy the comfort that you are outside of all that mess and you can be a decent moral person because you CHOOSE to and not because you are a brainwashed sheep.

go jewish or buddhist.

LOL - as if Judaism is any better than the other religions...

Buddhism is pretty sweet, although it's more a philosophy than a religion.
