Hi - my mother's dell inspiron 8200 just started having a serious issue last night. She came home from work and the screen was just blank. She couldn't get it to wake up, so eventually restarted it (via the power button). When she turned it back on, it told her that there was no hard drive or optical drive attached. She tried a couple more times, but when it finally did load windows again it crashed fairly quickly. I had her go into the bios and sure enough - both the optical drive and the hard drive no longer show up. So does anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong with it? I believe the system is no longer under warranty, which is certainly unfortunate. To me it sounds like the IDE controller must just have kicked the bucket, and I doubt that is fixable without replacing the motherboard. What do you think? Thanks!
edit: just found out the system is under warranty - so it won't cost me anything to get it repaired. Anybody know what is wrong though?
