Serious problem, what do you think it is?

A few days ago my computer couldn't connect to the internet. So I went through all the usual Windows steps to get it up & working, but it didn't happen. Then I decided to just format & reinstall Windows to see if it was a more serious problem. Well after getting it all reinstalled & trying to get my internet working, my USB mouse & keyboard quit working.

At this point I was frustrated enough but I just could not get my mouse & kb working again. I decided to let the computer keep running to see what it would do & after awhile I heard a click (sounded like a small light switch). Now, thinking it might be the PSU I decided to turn the power switch off & back on before trying to do anything else & now my USB mouse & kb work fine.

So was it the PSU all along?

PC Power & Cooling 410w Silencer
MSI neo4 SLI
AMD 3500+
Patriot XBL 1gb
Gigabyte 6600gt

Sounds about right. Clicking noises are death to anything electrical. Considering there is no other component that could cause the noise except the on/off button, I would bank my pennies on the PSU.

That's exactly what i was thinking. Luckily everything seems to be ok now (although i haven't checked the keyboard yet) so hopefully no permanent damage was done.

Could be the power supply, but if I was a betting man, I would lean towards your motherboard at this point.

That's what i thought at first but now everything works fine and the front USB's were not working as well, which I have running straight off the PSU itself.

The hard drive might be having a problem because I did have problems installing Windows this time, but I hope not since it is an RMA I just got maybe a month ago. I think the Windows isntall problem was because I had not turned off the PSU switch yet. I don't claim to be a PSU engineer, but it seems like turning the switch off then back on reset something inside of it so that is probably what caused Windows install to crap out.
