Serious Problem and suggestions required... W2K Server

Have 1 file server thats been active for 3 years now.. using Intel NIC and a 3x18 RAID 5

First 1.5 years using NT4 - every ran great, using a 2 partition for share

After that, user start having saving problem, ie excel can't save, OS start giving off browser election errors, etc.etc.

Down the machine, tested it, bought it back up with Windows 2000, reformat everything, tested raid, etc.

3 month later, same thing happen, in W2k.

Last week, I pull the drive out, and put it in another server to see if it was the OS or the computer, turns out, the OS is now good , no more browser error, or application stuff...

So i'm sure theres something wrong with the original server... what program can I use to test this thing... it could be the network adapter or the raid controller, the diagnostic program that came with it says no problem.. but how much do you trust that...

so please help me, any suggestions or suff I can test out in W2k ? or dos mode ?

i wouldnt necessaryly be convinced its a hardware problem but....
nics are cheap, replace the nic. if that doesnt fix it, then look elsewhere.

actually these are the dual gigabit nics, but i'll put a pair of 10/100 in to test... hope that works... that would be cheap if its just nics
