Hi guys since i upgraded from Ecs K7S5A, nVIDIA TNT2 with 512mb Pc133 memory to ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, Radeon 9700pro and 256 DDR2100 memory (Processor is a 1600XP Athlon) I have noticed a serious decrease in perofrmance. WTH? It runs better in games but when swapping between messenger windows and IE, booting up and loading programs it is immesley slow. I can often wait a couple of seconds for the messneger window to show and it will often stop responding when typing only to catch up 5 or so seconds later. What causing this is it memory? Processor? or is something else? Any help would be appreciated Thanks.

I no computer expert by any means but, do you have DMA enabled on all your drives? Also, setting up your own IP thorugh network properties will help with boot times, but if you have cable internet, this will mess it up.

How do i enable DMA? I dont have cable i only have dial up but i got the feeling that it was more a hardware problem than OS settings ill try it anyway and see what happens. Thanks

Edit
Yeah i can imagine 256 being a problem although running asus prob it shows it never really egtting above half use. I immediatly thought memory until i noticed that...strange

Right Click > My Computer > Hardware < Device Manager > IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers >

And under both IDE channels > Select Properties > Advance Settings >

Choose "DMA if avaialble" for all devices.

Nice one, it was already enabled on the primary channel but not on the secondary so i enabled it. Im guessing that its a memory lack that causing the problem so ill sort that as soon as possible. Thanks all!
