I've played the game for about an hour, and I'm not a huge fan. Guess I should have guessed that, since I usually don't like open world games. If I wanted an open world, I'd go outside.

You can drive at any speed you want, while running down pedestrians, and get in massive gun fights, then steal a helicopter for a quick get-away?

^ all the time.

"IGN is one of the more popular mainstream online sources for the latest news on video games. IGN has recently expanded to include film information, including movie reviews, as well. Is very unpopular with the more niche gamer for their overt catering to mainstream tastes and interests. IGN is largely characterized by its poorly written reviews and haphazard game ratings. Known for giving inflated review scores to very popular or hyped games in order to drive sales for their advertisers and corporate sponsors.

(1) You can't spell ignorant without IGN."

Look, anytime a game is graphically upgraded, with no substance or anything revolutionary added, it gets a LOWER score than it's predecessors. Obviously they don't let down hyped games because they will get fired like gerstmann for telling the truth about K&L. a 10? With a broken melee system?

Goes to show you that graphics > gameplay. By graphics I mean to include physics, AI, etc. Not just the way things look but the way they run below the surface as well.

This game shouldn't receive higher than an 8.5/9 imo.

Everyone who says this is mediocre is weird. I'm having a freaking blast with GTA4. It's my favorite GTA so far; it made me forget that MGS4 was coming out soon for a while; and MGS is pretty much my favorite series.

Yeah, sometimes the frame rate drops to slideshow proportions, but usually when you have 60 cops and four helicopters after you, plus sundry traffic, pedestrians, aircraft, etc.

It's a great game. Stay Alpha!

IGN and Gamespot pull this crap every so often. They both did the same thing with the tony hawk series. I don't know if they don't hire good editors or what, but the pattern goes like this:

1. Over time reviews keep getting higher and higher, regardless of whether the game with the high score is better than one with a lower score
2. Eventually a game gets totally blown out of proportion in score. The staff jumps in and decides to do something.
3. If it's IGN, the "something" they do is to tell people to tone it down. If it's gamespot, they retroactively adjust the rating of all games in the past x years to be "reasonable"
4. After the crackdown, really good games get an 8.5 or so. This figure slowly goes up over time again, starting us back at #1

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to spot a bogus score. You should immediately become suspicious of any game that gets a 10 I don't know of any game that has deserved that which actually got it. Maybe Soul Calibur for Dreamcast (did that get a 10?).
