serial to usb? parallel to usb?

having a hard time finding one of these things. everyone seems to be selling usb to parallel/serial but not the other way around.

my other option would be to use one of those ps/2-to-usb mouse adaptors and plugging in another serial-to-ps/2 adaptor. yes, i'm trying to get my usb ethernet device to work on a machine that only has parallel and serial ports.

I doubt it will work. Why don't you get a cheap NIC card ?

How about a PCI USB card? Useful for more than just the network hookup, and Newegg has a whole slew of them starting at $12 shipped: Newgg search for "usb pci card"

Do what mechBgon said. Don't waste your time finding an adapter.
But stay away from the VIA usb chipset's.

I know this all too well. I've got a USB 2.0 card with a VIA chipset and it's a royal PITA.

this is actually for an old laptop that doesn't have pcmcia slots. anyway, i just bought a parallel port ethernet adaptor so that should suffice for now.
