Does anyone have a general idea on how I could control like 10-16 relays with a serial port on my computer?

I think I have have to use a De-multiplexer or something. I would like to write a program or get a hold of a program that would allow me to click a button on the screen, that in turn would turn on a relay through the Serial port. I would like to have like 10-16 Relays though.

Anyone have any ideas?

Search google for rs232 and relay, you'll find a lot of links to equipment (with various prices). The first link that came up for me was this one which is a 16 port driver.

Can I ask what you want to control?

I am wanting to control various stuff in a car (an old junk car for testing). Stuff like the remote starter, alarm, windows, headlights.....
 
That is a good link ( Here ) but it is $300. Anyone have an idea on how to Make one of these.....or somewhere else that might sell them for cheaper?
