Serial port to PS/2 adaptor - Keyboard won't work with it?

Hello there,
I am using the Andara barebones kit which was for sale at overstock.com a few months ago, anyway, I have the flickering keyboard syndrome - which is basically something to do with a bad connection on the keyboard PS/2 input. Generally if you wiggle the connector it works again - otherwise the lights flicker and you can't use the keyboard.

A flash of light entered my cranium the other day and I decided to pick up a serial to PS/2 adapter or whatever you call it - connector from my motherboard serial port allowing me to plug in a PS/2 device...

Well when I plugged it all in feeling very smug with myself it did not work...hmm....I though this would work the same way as a USB to PS/2 adaptor would work...but it seems that I was trying to be too clever.

Is it the case that the device (a keyboard) must be supported by a serial cable originally to be able to use my connection method?

Put quite simply - how do I (if possible?) get my Logitech PS/2 keyboard to work with a serial port adapter?

Gavin, I believe that adapter is only for use with Mice or other input devices. Keyboard connectors are alternatively PS/2 or AT (DIN).

The first thing I would do is try a different keyboard in the existing PS2 connector to determine if the problem is in your motherboard PS/2 or the keyboard itself.

If it is the mobo connector, I'm afraid the alternatives are repair or replace. Keyboards don't work in serial ports.

If you have a USB port, you can try that. There are USB keyboards.

Yeah it is the actual motherboard that is the problem - severl other people have mentioned this problem - I actually replaced the keyboard thinking it was to blame a month or so ago.

Guess I should have bought a USB version :(

It's not a critical problem - just a bit inconvenient at times ;)

Yeah it is the actual motherboard connector that is the problem - seems to be a common fault with this particular motherboard.

I have also wondered if it will be possible to use a PS/2 to USB adapter to run this keyboard instead?

It's no big deal really, the keyboard only occasionally suffers from this problem..normally only when I move the case around or fiddle with the cables etc ;)

Cool I'll check it out later tonight - I got one with my Microsoft Optical mouse.

I'll just swap it over and see what happens ;)
