Situation: Trying to use WinWedge between a Pennsylvania Scale weight scale and a laptop (XP).
1st try- Scale, Japanese WinWedge, IBM Laptop (Japanese XP). Connect RS-232 cable (straight, as specified in the manual, and in an email from Penn. Scale). Match settings between scale and port (COM 1; Baud, Parity, etc.). Try to hook them up and *poof.* Cannot make connection w/ COM 1.
2nd try- Scale, WinWedge, Sony laptop (English XP). Connect, match settings, *poof.* Same problem. Acts as if COM 1 is being used by something else.
So I check the settings on the Sony. I don't see anything that could be using COM 1. The only peripheral connected is a USB MS Intellimouse. Only IRQ being used (that I can see) for the mice (built-in and the USB MS mouse) is IRQ 12. Checked to see if the modem was latching on to the port for some wacky reason- it was on IRQ 7 and the COM 1 port on IRQ 4, so that shouldn't have been the problem. Disabled it anyway. Still no change.
Opened up HyperTerminal and it says that the port is in use by another Telephony device and to try again once it's finished. ???
I've looked upside down and sideways and I feel that there's an easy solution somewhere- my brain's just too fuzzmuddled right now to figure out what the solution is. Figured that this'd be as good o' place as any to find an answer.
