Serial number on hard drive?

Okay I have a dead maxtor 20gig hd. Drive won't spin up.
The model number is 52049H3.
Is there a way to pull the number off the drive somehow.
The sticker where the serial number should be is mysteriously missing the left half. I need this so I can rma it. Is there anywhere else on the drive the number might be. On the part of the sticker that is left it says DF06A. Any help would be appreciated.

does it still post or anything ? I'm pretty sure the diagnostic tools has a serial # listed.... but can't be fore sure

In bios I can autodetect and the specs will show up but, I get a harddrive failure error when posting. Are there any utilities that can find the serial number? Sorry for not replying sooner, went away for a while.

I'm not sure, but if any stickers are pulled off they generally consider your warranty void. I'm not sure if the Serial# is one of them.
