Serial number help!!

Over a year ago I bought a software called, My Life. I had a hard drive crash and I've got the new one and I'm loading up all my software, well until now. I tried to load my version of, My Life and it wants a serial number off the box. I threw the box away ages ago. So, I tried to call the company. I'm assuming they went under because I can't get them on the phone (busy circuit signal) and it's been like that for 3 days. I tried to get on their website. Website can't be found. I know this might be asking a lot but does anyone know how I can get around that serial number stuff and get my software loaded? Or am I stuck with a worthless piece of plastic I paid good money for? Please help!!
 
You are probably stuck unless you can get in touch with the company or find someone who will give you their serial number.

If nothing else you learned that you should save the serial numbers for your software someplace where you won't lose them.
