Replacing my PS2 mouse with a serial mouse (in the proper connector) doesn't work on my CUSL2. I tried changing BIOS settings, but to no avail. I think I am missing something. Anyone know what to do?

is com1 enabled cause com2 u have to add onto the mobo as they have intergrated video onboard that takes over the com2 port

Check that the COMM port is enable AND that its IRQ is not shared (should be IRQ 4 for COMM1). Set the IRQ to Legacy ISA device in the BIOS/PCI pnp. You probably will have to remove the PS2 mouse in the Device Mangler.
