Serial Mouse and Pentium I Motherboards Problem

Okay I am really *annoyed* with Pentium 1 motherboards. Most serial port brackets are proprietary to the original motherboard. Meaning, if you accidently swap the bracket with another Pentium I motherboard, despite that the serial connector connects perfectly into the motherboard's serial port, you'll get a system that won't detect the mouse. Is there a solution to this? It happened once to me a long time ago and it was the biggest headache of my life and I was fortunate enough to discover this problem and learned about this. I've recently sold a Pentium I motherboard to a client. She says the mouse doesn't work. I think it's because I accidently swap the serial brackets. I have half a dozen of these Pentium I motherboards all different brands. Is there a cheap and quick fix to getting the mouse to work besides buying a PCI USB card and adding a USB mice to an already obsolete system?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

did you check the serial cable hook up to the mobo properly? I had this problem before cause I hooked it up to the different slot on the mobo. Since they are really small it's kinda hard to see it. Anyway if you want other alternative then if I am not mistaken PI also has the PS/2 port where you can add the PS/S mouse. I hope that helps.
