Serial in use ERROR

I tried to play Generals on my wireles home network I get Serial in use when I try to connect to the other computer. I have played it before on them. I am a newb so I don't even know where to start to look to fix it.

you are selecting the wrong settings in the game, it is looking for a null modem serial cable.
