serial ide drives?

Hey guys i am in the market and have been waiting for serial ide drives to appear FOREVER! What gives? All the motherboard manufactorers are putting serial ata interfaces on thier mbs now. Why is it taking so long for the hard drive manufactorers to produce serial drives? I know the performance difference of the early drives won't be that much different but im wanting to save the space in my case. I have a full tower and i think it is to cramped now. Anyone have any idea when we will start to see serial drives on the market?
