serial ATA & Ultra Ata

Sorry, for this newb question.. what is the difference between the two? why is ultra cheaper? and which is a better performer?

UltraATA has a max STR (sustained transfer rate) of 133MB/s while SATA has a max STR of 150MB/s. Not like there are any harddrives out there that even come close to these transfer rates anyway. Serial ATA is a newer design since Ultra ATA is based on the "old" parallel IDE design and hence is more future-proof and has more capabilities such as NCQ, TCQ.

But most people like SATA mainly for the thinner cables which help improve airflow in the case itself.

also, the cables are .5 inches wide, and the ata cables are those big stupid ribons that reduce airflow
